Is
John Kerry's war record an issue in this election?
No, that is... it
shouldn’t be. The efforts to make it an issue distract us from the
critical problems facing our country now.
Extricating ourselves
from Iraq, more intelligent and effective ways to prevent terrorism,
lowering the enormous and growing national debt (where is the Republican
belief in fiscal responsibility?), finding ways to provide basic health
care for everyone-especially children, improving our public education
system our forefathers created, correct the massive inequities in our tax
system which are making the rich richer and everyone else poorer, further
correct our campaign finance policies are all some of these issues that
should be debated.
George Bush’s war record
is certainly nothing to brag about and, although John Kerry’s is stellar
in comparison, I think the most intelligent and courageous action of
either is Kerry’s effort to try and stop the Vietnam War debacle after his
service there.
Hopefully we can learn
from our past, but move on to the issues we face today.
